Can I let you in on a little secret? My passion is applique, but I like pieced quilts too. After working a little at the great quilt shop right down the road- I have to admit I was a little envious of how quickly it seemed everyone was finishing quilt tops. I had a good understanding of how to machine piece but had really not spent any time trying it myself. Most of my piecing experience had been done by hand. So, I decided it was time to start experimenting and the best way I know how to conquer a new skill is to design a project that incorporates what want to learn. This diagonal setting was a great way to combine both and still end up with an attractive quilt. I am still learning all the tricks for accurate machine piecing and have an admiration for the skill.
This time, I frustrated Mary Anne with my request for how she stitched her version of the design. (By the way, notice as usual hers is finished and mine is still in various stages of completion!) Anyway's, I asked her to make her quilt without the reverse applique. You would have thought I had asked for the moon…

Mary Anne's version of Charmingly Rosey

She loves reverse applique as much as I do and was very disappointed that I had asked her to omit it from her version. You can see that it still makes a stunning quilt and shows a different setting option for the quilt design, but she still grumbles from time to time that she would have liked her version better if I wouldn't have talked her into leaving it out! I think it looks great.
