As the companion piece to "From the Heart", this 24" block was meant to be one of the corner blocks of a medallion quilt. Even so, it makes a wonderful statement in its own right. Because I create as I go along, the complete fan was appliqued before I designed the bouquet. This makes sure that the motif stays consistent no matter where the flowers are placed. OK, it is a little more work, but well worth the effort. By the way, I usually do all of my complex designs this way, with the underlying motif complete. It really avoids any mishaps if things don't line up perfectly.
        "Victorian Fan" features an ornamental border with reverse applique lattice work and acanthus leaves and curls. The floral design overlaps the cutwork applique fan and includes a number of relatively simple dimensional techniques.
