Each of the blocks have fused appliques with different embroidery stitches covering the raw edges of the fabric. Since it was a teaching project there are lots of silk ribbon embroidery stitches throughout the blocks.
All of the designs are modeled after traditional Baltimore Album blocks. Baskets, urns, houses, ships, all of the motifs you would expect to see in the large counterparts.
